Talks
I have given a variety of slide talks and illustrative presentations to group sizes varying from 5 to 200+ and aged 8 to 80+! Through these talks I hope to share my personal and often humorous experiences from my wilderness explorations, inspiring, encouraging and motivating others to believe in their dreams, whatever they might be!
I can deliver interactive workshops and provide follow-up educational resources for schools. I am a qualified teacher and have taught in both the classroom and the outdoor/environmental context for the last 19 years. The resources cover a range of aspects of polar life, e.g.
  • Key Stage 1 and 2 - Polar bears vs penguins;
  • Key Stage 3 and 4 - The Antarctic Treaty and ozone issues;
  • Full age range - PSHE issues, e.g. self belief, teamwork.
I have also used these 'challenging adventures' and talks afterwards as a way of raising funds and awareness for a variety of different charities:-
Macmillan Nurses www.macmillan.org.uk
Goodwill Childrens Homes www.goodwillhomes.org.uk
Challenge Cancer Through Adventure www.challengecancer.org.uk
Wateraid www.wateraid.org.uk
Freeplay Foundation www.freeplayfoundation.org
If you would like me to give a talk to your group, please contact me at helenturton@hotmail.com   to discuss your requirements. Alternatively, drop me a line to see if I am already planning on giving a public talk in your area of the country.
